Psychologist or psychotherapist?
The title "Psychologist" is protected in Denmark, and it means that the person holding it has a 5-year university training from either of these universities: Copenhagen, Århus or Ålborg.
The title of "Psychotherapist" is not protected, and thus everyone with or without training can call himself a psychotherapist. However, there are some schools which meet the standards formulated by the Danish Union of Psychotherapists.
Change occurs whenever we have the courage to contain what is present within us at this very moment. And thus, our focus will be continuously on an acceptance of the emotions and thoughts present within you at the moment.
Our focus is that of an exploration of your thoughts and feelings, and of how it is to be you. And, we focus on the here-and-now interaction between us to explore your particular being.
In order for the therapy to be efficient, you must commit yourself to it. You are the one who's the expert in your experiences, and thus it's important that you are open and participating actively in the process.
The goal of the therapy sessions is to increase your awareness of your thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, resources and potentials, and on how you find your purpose and meaning in your life, and how you express yourself, generally. And thus, it might be clearer to you as to which decisions for you to make.
I will do my utmost to make the encounter with you one of openness, respect and acceptance.
The basis of the therapy is existentialistic and
phenomenological thinking within psychological and
philosophical tradition. In short, these subjects
deal with how a human being experiences his life and
gives meaning to it.
In therapy this is expressed in the way that the
therapist listens to and tries to understand the
client's point of view as accurately as possible in
an exploration of how the client experiences his
world, thoughts, emotions and general understanding.
I also use elements from Gestalt therapy, from
Psychodynamic thinking, Cognitive Therapy, and with
an overall focus based in Mindfulness. I use these
different methods to put an effort into understanding and
into helping you understand and give meaning
to your own experiences.
The therapy is an encounter with yourself. This
takes courage, since it entails taking the
responsibility for your life. Therapy can assist you
in increasing your awareness of this courage, and
what the obstacles are to you having this courage.
Transformation happens when you surrender yourself
to the process, and when you can contain the
feelings and emotions present in you at the moment
in an accepting and non-judgmental way. Thus, your
awareness of your feelings, thoughts and bodily
sensations can increase.
So, the form of therapy I practice can be said to be a
form of awareness training in order for you to be
more conscious of your own way of expressing
yourself emotionally, psychologically, bodily, and
how you give meaning to your life.

I have a Master's degree in Psychology from the University of Copenhagen. During my
studies, I have been working with mentally ill
people in their own homes, and with young people
with personality disorders.
But, it is the psychotherapeutical work in
particular that I'm interested in, and therefore,
during my psychology studies, I started a 4-year
psychotherapeutic training program at Psykoterapeutisk
Institut, from which I
graduated in the fall of 2006.
I was working as a reflexologist for a number of years, and this gave me quite a good feeling of the dynamics of psychosomatics, or in other words, how psychological symptoms sometimes can be expressed in the body.
I have a great deal of life experience from working with myself for many years, and from my curiosity of life's big existential issues.
I am a member of:
- Dansk Psykolog Forening
- Forum for Eksistentiel Psykologi og Terapi
- Dansk
Carl Rogers Forum
I am under supervision, and I am frequently in therapy myself, as part of my professional and personal development.
I work under the ethical guidelines of professional secrecy of the Nordic Association of Psychologists.
